Frequently asked questions

What is splitwow?
splitwow is a native macOS menu-bar app that arranges your windows into clean layouts. Pick from 20 layouts, snap the active window to a half or quarter, or save whole arrangements as scenes — all from the menu bar.
Does splitwow need accessibility permission?
Yes. Like every macOS window manager, splitwow uses the system Accessibility API to move and resize windows. You grant it once in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 13 (Ventura) or later, on Apple Silicon.
Does splitwow work with multiple monitors?
Yes. You choose the target display for any layout or snap, and saved scenes remember which monitor each window belongs to.
How is splitwow different from Rectangle or Magnet?
splitwow focuses on full layouts — 20 presets including master + stack and grids — plus saved scenes, not just edge-snapping. It lives in the menu bar, needs no account, and sends no analytics.
Does splitwow track me?
No. splitwow runs entirely on your Mac, has no account, and sends no analytics or tracking. Your layouts and scenes are stored locally on your device.
Is splitwow free?
splitwow is a one-time purchase — $9.99 at launch (going up to $12.99), with a free 14-day trial and no subscription. It’s also available through Setapp.
